Procurement can be defined as the process to obtain materials, supplies, services and contracts with the highest level of qualitative services and the best total cost through open and fair competition.
The use of Procurement Service Providers (PSP) is rapidly increasing due to global market conditions and the need for businesses to maintain and reduce costs without eliminating resources.

“Enterprises that have outsourced management of specific procurement processes and/or specific categories of spending have been able to achieve material cost reductions that average between 10% and 25%. In some cases, material cost reductions topped 30%.” Aberdeen Group Research Abstract

 – Expediting
Today expediting is an integral part of the procurement process. In the past, expediting has been considered a corrective function rather than a preventive function. However, as both the schedule and the pricing of projects continue to become increasingly critical, expediting should be incorporated into the project planning at the onset to ensure the required timely delivery.
Expediting is a continuous process, commencing at the time of order placement, of ensuring that final delivery of goods and documentation to the job site is achieved within the shortest possible timeframe.

On any key procurement, delays in delivery of materials, products or equipment to their final destination result in very expensive costs. To eliminate or reduce the potential problems for such delays, PPII provides qualified expeditors to actively oversee and when necessary assist suppliers in management of milestones and processes through the supply-chain as necessary to improve the required delivery of any items which may be critical to the procurement schedule.

Therefore, expeditors play an active role rather than a passive role in reporting suppliers’ progress. Not only will the expeditors verify and report the status of materials and activities related to the agreed programs, but they also actively anticipate possible delays or bottlenecks, advise, assess, (when necessary) coordinate, urge, influence or put pressure on the suppliers to maintain or improve upon the milestones agreed.
